2026 Shows January 17. Richmond Music Hall January 18. The Pinhook, Durham January 19. APLR, Asheville January 20. Visulite Theatre, Charlotte A new trio featuring Billy Martin, Matt Glassmeyer, and Jonathan Goldberger will perform four shows across Virginia and North Carolina in support of their January 16, 2025 album State Fête. The album captures a wide dynamic and emotional range, presenting three seasoned improvisers creating in real time. The album is fully-improvised and represents some of the first sounds they have made together. The album pushes the concept of live composition, rich with concrete motifs and vast range of textures. Along with the Mid-Atlantic dates, the New York album release show is February 23 at Lowlands in Brooklyn. Billy Martin (@illybeats), a founding member of Medeski, Martin and Wood, has played with John Lurie's Lounge Lizards, John Zorn's Cobra ensembles and countless other uncompromising groups. He has relentlessly pursued diverse musical contexts, from free improvisation to chamber compositions to film scores. Along with creating new instruments, Martin is also an accomplished filmmaker and visual artist. Matt Glassmeyer (@meadownoise) makes innovative sounds with a variety of adventurous players in Nashville and New York. Groups include Slow Accordion with Oliver Wood, duo with Jano Rix of the Wood Brothers, Hompulon with Brooklyn creatives Tim Keiper, Brian Drye, Dana Lyn, Tom Spiker and Jonathan Goldberger. His unique album "Live Band" features Nashville experts Ethan Jodziewicz, Mark Raudabaugh and JP Ruggieri. Matt is the inventor of the reedless tenor saxophone, new percussion concepts, and has a singular approach to the electric piano. Jonathan Goldberger's (@jgoldberger) unique guitar playing is featured with Red Baraat, John Zorn, Jim Black, Joe Russo's Selcouth Quartet and many other progressive groups. Jonathan played on the 2025 New York Times #3 jazz record of the year, Ye Olde. His own recordings include the acoustic collective Surface to Air and Visitors (with JP Schlegelmilch and Jim Black), one of Rolling Stone’s 20 Best Jazz Albums of 2018. |
